MINI's John Cooper Works hatchback is one of the highest-rated driver's cars in the world and has captured yet another award.
The readers of German motoring magazine sport auto voted for the MINI John Cooper Works as the best car in the imported small car category.
The sport auto magazine is well-known in motoring circles for its Supertest events - high-speed laps of the famous Nürburgring Nordschleife, ranking performance cars by the laptime achieved by editor-in-chief Horst von Saurma.
A John Cooper Works MINI would certainly appeal to a sporting publication. Technology for the engine, suspension and aerodynamics of the hot hatch derives directly from motor racing, with the focus on extreme driving fun.
Driven by the most powerful engine ever installed in one of the British premium brand’s production models, the 2 litre 4-cylinder petrol engine with MINI TwinPower Turbo Technology generates 231hp and in combination with the 6-speed manual gearbox (a 6-speed auto is also available) the JCW will reach 62mph in just 6.3 seconds.
Rather than being put through its paces on the 'Green Hell' - the name Jackie Stewart coined for the Nordschleife, the MINI's award comes by popular vote. More than 13,000 readers of sport auto voted in 30 production car categories, with the MINI JCW taking the crown in the imported small car category.
These reader awards have been held annually since 1980.
