MINI has announced its car and driver line-up as it attempts to win its fifth successive Dakar Rally.
The Dakar Rally is a breathtaking cross-country endurance event across South America and some of the toughest terrain on Earth. More than 5,500 miles separates the start and finish line and with around 400 entries from cars, trucks, bikes and quads, even finishing the race is a challenge, never mind winning it!
Team X-Raid’s entry next year will consist of four MINI All4 driving crews, which will be made up of professional highly skilled drivers, each with a co-driver, who have been selected due their performance in rally motorsport.
Last year's victorious driving team, Qatar’s Nasser Al-Attiyah and France’s Mathieu Baumel, are set to defend their crown and believe a good set up and a bit of luck, goes along way in winning.
The other All4 teams consist of previous winners, specialist drivers and a wealth of experienced World Rally Championship (WRC) stars, including Mikko Hirvonen, who all believe they can continue MINI's success and get themselves on the podium. With four of the top five fastest finishers in the 2015 event coming from the All4 racing team and 11 of 13 stages going to MINI drivers, there's a good chance of a fifth title coming back in MINI's hands.
2016's Dakar Rally starts on January 2nd in Buenos Aires and will drive through both Argentina and Bolivia, before coming to a close 2 weeks later in Rosario. With heights of up to 12,000ft and temperatures over 40 degrees Celsius, it's sure to live up to its reputation as the toughest race on Earth.
