MINI Convertible JCWThe performance extremes of MINI's John Cooper Works brand is now available with the open-air experience of the MINI Convertible.
Like the hardtop hatchback, the MINI Convertible JCW packs a newly-developed, high temperature resilient turbocharger that has a higher boost capacity. Pistons have been upgraded to increase compression and the resulting numbers are suitably impressive. The JCW convertible develops 232hp and 236lbft of torque - the latter being available across the rev range.
All of that results in 0-62 times of 6.6 and 6.5 for the manual and Steptronic transmissions respectively. The broad spread of torque and high power peak means that the Convertible JCW pulls incessantly, right up to the 150mph top speed.
Structurally the Convertible JCW is assisted by new bracing, and anti-roll bars at the front and rear axles maintain the precise handling characteristics of the hard top. It remains an authentic and focused driving machine, even when the roof comes off.
The fully automatic soft top roof of the Convertible remains, with impeccable insulation against external noise and an 18 second top to drop time at up to 19mph. It’s the perfect compromise between racer and cruiser.
Of course as a modern MINI, it has to retain the usable credentials of the cars on which it’s based, so JCW Convertible is as competent a city runabout as any MINI. Its powerful engine also returns commendable consumption figures of as much as 47.9mpg with the Steptronic transmission.
MINI JCW Convertible retains the all round appeal of any MINI, whilst building on the effortless style with suitably aggressive cues to offer clues to its performance potential. Taking the top down will surely only build upon the experience.
