To take on the fearsome and ever-changing terrain of the world’s different rallying stages, MINI has aimed to create one of the toughest rally cars to survive the tricky conditions.
For use in events such as the Dakar Rally, the Silk Way Rally and the FIA World Cup rally events, the MINI John Cooper Works Rally shows the brand’s commitment to motorsport. In partnership with X-raid, MINI has converted its latest generation of the Countryman into a go-anywhere racer that can tackle the toughest race in the world.
Using the experience it had gained from using ALL4 all-wheel drive technology in previous rallying events, JCW and X-raid were able to kit the new MINI Countryman out to the FIA’s safety standard. After last year’s car, the MINI Motorsport team looked at improving the aerodynamics, thermal management, weight distribution and a lower centre of gravity. Alongside developing a new chassis and engineering new engine formats, the team has looked to make the newest MINI JCW Rally car its best yet.
Under the bonnet, the car will be powered by a BMW Group TwinPower turbocharged three-litre six-cylinder diesel that produces upwards of 340bhp and 800Nm of torque. The robust car weighs 1952.5kg – in accordance with FIA regulations – and has a top speed of 114mph.
Built with a tubular steel chassis and composite bodywork, the JCW Rally is designed to take on any challenge that the events can throw at them, and with a lengthy history of rallying success, MINI Motorsport aims to continue the trend into the latest generation.
